What exactly is ITC zone,Coriolis force, jet stream and El Nino?? Please try to explain in simple language rather than "scientific" lang. and please try not to use "hard to understand" words! And last thing don't copy+paste your ans. I want to understand what exactly are these things. thankyou!

Dear Student,

  • El Nino is name given to the phenomenon of the variations in the temperature of the surface of the tropical eastern Pacific Ocean accompanied by high air surface pressure in the western Pacific. El Niño is Spanish word for "the little boy" and refers to the Christ child, because periodic warming in the Pacific near South America is usually noticed around Christmas.
  • Coriolis force:  It is a force caused by the earth’s rotation which deflects winds towards the right in the northern hemisphere and towards the left in the southern hemisphere.
  •  Jet stream: These are a belt of high altitude (above 12,000 m) westerly winds in the troposphere. Their speed varies from about 110 km/h in summer to about 184 km/h in winter.
  •  Inter Tropical Convergence Zone(ITCZ) : It is a broad trough of low pressure in equatorial latitudes. This is where the northeast and the southeast trade winds converge. This convergence zone lies more or less parallel to the equator but moves north or south with the apparent movement of the sun.
