what happen if the cell loses water

The plant cell when placed under hypertonic medium( High concentrated solution), it loses a great amount of water and it's cell membrane detaches from the cell wall. The cytoplasm pulls away from the cell wall due to the loss of water through osmosis in a hypertonic solution This process is termed as Plasmolysis.
