Increased levels of acidity in stomach leads to acidity. 

The gastric glands present in the walls of the stomach produces hydrochloric acid which helps in the digestion of food.

Excess production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach can damage the protective lining of the stomach. Sometimes, the valve between the oesophagus and stomach becomes weak and the acid from the stomach reaches the lower part of the oesophagus. This can result in heartburn and extreme discomfort. It is known as acidity.

There are many causes of acidity like eating spicy food, junk, oily food, not chewing the food properly, not drinking adequate amount of water, drinking soft drinks regularly, smoking, excess alcohol consumption, etc.
