The Hundredth tiger was not killed by the King. The tiger was fell down. King is shouted with joy. But the hunters didn't want to tell him about the tiger. So one of them took aim and shoot the tiger.

The Maharajah felt that he had killed the hundredth tiger. He was very elated as he felt that death from the hundredth fateful tiger was evaded. But there was more to what had met his eye. The tiger, in fact was not killed by the Maharajah. He had missed his aim and later it was killed by a hunter. The mention of the hundredth tiger re-enters the story as the Maharajah decides to get his son a tiger made of wood as a present. The sharp nature of the wooden tiger wounds him. He suffers from an infection as a result of this and later passes away. In this way, the hundredth tiger ends up killing him.
