what happens if our body has only electrical synapses?

Electrical synapse is the transfer of nerve impulse through narrow gap called gap junction between pre and post synaptic neurons. While the chemical synapse involves transmission of impulse through a chemical called neurotransmitter. Electrical synapses are relatively faster than chemical synapses.

Following things may happen if only electric synapses are present:
1. Electrical synapses cannot integrate information and make decisions, thus if chemical synapses are absent, it will become difficult to integrate information and make decisions.
2. Electrical synapses travel in both the directions, thus it may become difficult to direct a specific signal to specific destination.
3. Electric synapse lack the property of gain (gain is the ability of neurons to increase the power of impulse or signal) that is necessary for transmission of impulse in some systems of our body like auditory system.
4. Electrical synapse mainly transfers low frequency signals. Thus, it would be difficult to pass high frequency signals in our body if chemical signals are absent.
