what happens to the arrangement of molecules of solids on melting

Dear Student,
When a solid is heated to melt, its molecules gain kinetic energy from the thermal energy of the source as a result of which it starts vibrating. At the time of melting the bond among the molecules of the solid breaks and the molecules become mobile enough to move past one another and can flow like a liquid. The ordering among the solid which leads to their crystal structure disrupts and finally no crystal structure persists upon melting.
