What happens when a magnesium is burnt? Write the chemical reaction that takes place in this.

Dear student
Magnesium ribbon on burning combines with oxygen present in air to form magnesium oxide.
Following is the chemical equation for the reaction:

 2Mg (s) + O2 (g) → 2MgO (s)

The ribbon burns with a dazzling white flame and changes into white powder. This powder is nothing but magnesium oxide.
Hope it is clear
Regards
