What happens when Carbon is burnt in air with balanced chemical reaction

Dear Student,

Burning of carbon in air forms carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide as per the situation.

If air is present in excess, carbon reacts completely with oxygen present to form carbon dioxide (CO2)

                                      C + O2 ----------> CO2

If there is limited supply of air, which means limited amount of oxygen, then there is formation of carbon monoxide (CO)

                                      2C + O2 ----------> 2CO
Regards.                              .
