What happens when ethane is burnt in air

Dear student,

When ethane burns in presence of air it gives carbon dioxide and water along with the heat.
2C2H6 + 7O2  4CO2 + 6H2O

It does not burn because it is non combustible

Assuming a complete combustion (one where the amount of oxygen available is sufficient such that the products of the combustion are carbon dioxide and water only), the reaction should be

C2H6 + 7/2 O2 -> 2CO2 + 3H2O
