1. Van arkel Method is a method of preparing ultrapure metals. In this method,the impure metal is first converted into one of its unstable compounds and then heating of that compound of the metal at higher temperatures, decomposes it to give pure metal. Some common metals purified by this method are : Ti, Zr etc.

2. Zone refining is a technique of purifying crystals in which a narrow molten zone is moved slowly along the complete length of the specimen to bring about impurity segregation, and which depends on differences in composition of the liquid and solid in equilibrium.
