WHAT IMPACT WILL ADDITIONAL WATER PUMPS, DRY SEASON CROPPING, FERTILIZERS, PESTICIDES, AND OTHER FOOD INSECURITY SOLUTIONS HAVE ON THE ENVIRONMENT? WATER AVAILABILITY PLAY INTO FOOD SECURITY IN INDIA?

Dear Student,
Excess in the use of fertilizers have various negative effects on the soil which is the major part of our environment. Some of the ways in which they harm the soil fertility are:
(1.) They alter the soil chemistry and may make the soil acidic or alkaline which adversely affects the soil.
(2.) They are non biodegradable, hence excessive use leads to soil pollution.
(3.) They destroy the life present in soil. Excessive amounts kill the bacteria and other decomposers present in soil which are involved in increasing the fertility of the soil by making humus. Therefore, fertility of soil goes down as no more organic matter is there.

Impact of excess use of pesticides on environment:
(1.) Pesticides can have a multifold effect on the environment.
(2.)The pesticides sprayed in the air can cause air pollution.
(3.) Some pesticides can remain in soil for very long and adversely effect the environment. From the soil these chemicals can erode and reach the water bodies thus contaminating water and affecting aquatic life.
(4.) Pesticides may accumulate in the food chain and can result in biomagnification. Some pests also develop resistance against pesticides.

Kindly post the other parts of question in different thread.
