The poor peasants or sharecroppers suffered a lot because of
the english landlords
Those days a large portion of the arable land was divided into
large estate owned by those landlords and Indian tenants worked on
it
The landlords forced the tenants to plant 15% of their indigo
and pay entire harvest as rent to them
Later when the english landlords no more needed the harvest,
they demanded compensation from the peasants just to release them
from the 15% agreement
