RELIC CASKET IS A SMALL BOX PLACED IN THE CENTRE OF THE STUPA. THIS MAY CONTAIN THE BODILY REMAINS OF BUDDHA AND HIS FOLLOWERS, OR THE THINGS THEY USED.
THIS BOX WAS COVERED WITH THE EARTH AND THEN A LAYER OF MUD BRICK WAS ADDED ON THE TOP.

The Kanishka casket is said to have contained three bone fragments of the Buddha, which were forwarded to Burma by the British following the excavation, where they still remain. The Uppatasanti Pagoda also holds a tooth relic from China.
