What is a virus?

Dear student, Viruses are acellular microorganisms. Viruses are smaller than bacteria. All viruses are obligate parasites i.e they cannot survive outside the host cell. T hey cannot reproduce on their own and require a host cell to complete their life cycle. They are non-living outside the host but living when present inside the host. Viruses contain either DNA or RNA as genetic material. Example - There are thousands of viruses are present. Some of them are Adeno virus, retero Virus, Tobacco Mosaic virus, chicken pox virus, cowpea virus, Dengue virus, DNA virus, HIV virus, Pox Virus etc. Thanks and Regards.
