What is Acetylation of Pyruvate?

During glycolysis, glucose is converted into pyruvate. The pyruvate enters into citric acid cycle where ATP and NADH is formed. For entering into the citric acid cycle, the pyruvate is acetylated with the help of an enzyme pyruvate dehydrogenase which leads to the formation of acetyl coenzyme A.
