What is anions and cations?

Dear student

The atoms or molecules that possess a net negative charge ( mainly due to the fact that number of electrons are more than number of protons) are known as anions. e.g.  $C{l}^{- }, F^{-}, N{O_3}^{-}$etc

On the contrary,
 The atoms or molecules that possess a net positive charge( because the number of electrons are less than the number of protons) are known as cations.e.g. $H^{+}, N{a}^{+}, C{a}^{2+},N{H_4}^{+}$etc
