what is apoplast

Apoplast is a system of adjacent cell walls that are continuous, except at the casparian strips of the endodermis.
The apoplast pathway involves the movement of water through the adjacent cell walls of the epidermis and cortex with out entering the cytoplasm. The movement of water is restricted at the casparian strips of the root endodermis.
