What is BC and AD ? Write how they are used to write about the historical events ?

Dear Student,

BC, abbreviated as before Christ refers to that particular time period before the birth of Christ and AD, abbreviated as Anno Domini, refers to that time period which is after the birth of Christ or in the year of Christ. This classification is used to divide history into two different eras. In modern times, BC and AD is also classified as BCE and CE which literally mean Before Common Era and Common Era respectively. To better understand how to write BC to represent the historical events, let us consider the Mauryan period which has begun from 322 BC. It means 322 years before the birth of Christ. The more bigger number with a BC indicates the more older period. For instance, the Indus Valley Civilization began from 2500 BC which means 2500 years before the birth of Christ. But in case of AD it is quite opposite. The Gupta empire rose to power in 543 AD which means 543 years after the birth of Christ. Presently we live in the year 2020 AD which means 2020 years after the birth of Christ. The more bigger number with an AD indicates the more contemporary or recent period.
