what is BGA in plants?

Dear Student,

Please find below the solution to the asked query:

BGA stands for Blue green Algae.

Cyanobacteria are called blue-green algae because previously scientists placed them in the algae group as they are capable of carrying out photosynthesis. They appear blue-green in colour because of the pigment phycocyanin (phyco- algae, cyanin- shade of blue-green) which they use to capture light for photosynthesis. However, cyanobacteria are prokaryotic organisms which lack nuclear membrane, well-developed nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles like chloroplasts, mitochondria, etc and algae are eukaryotes having well-developed nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles. Due to this, scientists removed them from algae group and placed them in Kingdom Monera
