What is bioaccumulation ?

Dear Student

Bioaccumulation describes how some chemicals and pollutants like pesticides, mercury enter in a food chain gradually and start accumulating in an organism. Rate of absorption of these chemicals by an organism is more than the catabolism and excretion. This is the reason why such chemicals go on accumulating.
For example, accumulation of pesticides in a fish.
Such phenomenon affect  health of these organisms badly once accumulated to a certain concentration.

Bioaccumulation is the gradual accumulation of substances, such as pesticides, or other chemicals in an organism. Bioaccumulation occurs when an organism absorbs a substance at a rate faster than that at which the substance is lost by catabolism and excretion........
