What is Biosphere? What are the main subdivisions of biosphere?

Biosphere may be defined as the surface and the part of the earth capable of supporting life or where the living organisms exist. The main sub divisions of biosphere are as follows:

1) Hydrosphere: Hydrosphere is the part of earth surface which is covered by water. These areas include lakes, oceans, seas, clouds etc.

2) Lithosphere: Lithosphere refers to the outer part of the earth which includes the crust and upper mantle of the earth.

BIOSPHERE

A "biosphere" has commonly been defined as the surface of the earth, and the organisms contained therein. This is not its actual definition, though. The term itself was first defined and developed by the Soviet scientist Vladimir Vernadsky, who stated that a biosphere was a stable, adapting life support system with the potential to be a major geological force on a planet's surface and ecosphere. Under the right conditions, this force could transform the electrical, thermal, chemical and mechanical energy of the universe to meet its own needs.

Biosphere is the life supporting zone of the earth where the atmosphere, the hydrosphere and lithosphere interact and make life. The interactions and interdependence among various biotic and physical components of the environment has caused the balance in nature.
