Hi,
The Bunsen burner is connected to a gas supply. The mixture of gas (from the nozzle) and air (from the air holes) burns on the top of burner tube with blue flame when ignited. These burners are better than conventional spirit lamps as the spirit lamp uses alcohol which is expected to catch fire any time while burner starts burning when nozzle is turned on. Also the spirit lamp gives insufficient or less amount of heating as compared to burner which give a constant heat supply and as high temperature we want can be achieved. Also alcohol burns incompletely while burners are connected to LPG cylinders which burn completely leaving no residue.
Its name is derived after its discoverer Robert Bunsen.
