What is catechu?

Dear student,

Catechu is a wood extract obtained from the tree Acacia.
It is an important constituent of ayurvedic medicines used to treatment of diarrhoea and sore throat.
It is rich in tannins thus is also used for tanning animal hides.
It is also used in paan mixtures.
