what is chandrashekhar limit

Dear Student!

The Chandrashekhar limit is the value of mass beyond which the fusion process in a white dwarf (a phase of star) can no longer balance the gravitational pull, and rapidly collapses the star. The resulting pressure and density results into a violent outward explosion called supernova.

Hope it is clear!
Best wishes!!

The Chandrasekhar limit is an upper bound on the mass of bodies made from electron-degenerate matter, a dense form of matter which consists of nuclei immersed in a gas of electrons.
