what is common feature of democratic government and non democratic

Dear Student,

A democratic government is selected by the people and holds accountability towards people. While in a non-democratic government, the head of state is not elected by people and the leaders do not bother themselves with the opinion of people, i.e. no accountability towards people. Some common features between both democratic and non-democratic governments are that
  • Both of them are institutions of authority.
  • Both are responsible for managing their populations.
  • Both of them develop varied law and legal procedures.
  • Both of them have to manage their territories resources and allocating them.
  • Both are in charge of internal and external security of their territories and maintaining the integrity of their borders.

1. in a democracy the final decision making power must rest with those elected by the people.

2. a democracy must be based on a free and fair election where does currently in power have a fair chance of losing.

3. in a democracy each adult citizen must have one vote and each vote must have one value.

4. a democratic government rules within limits said by constitutional law and citizens rights.

5. it is necessary for a democracy to respect some rights of the citizens.

 Democratic government  Non-democratic government
 Democracy is the best form of government as the rulers are accountable to the people and have to fulfil their needs.  The rulers are not accountable to the people and their needs.
 In a democratic government, people elect their rulers and have right in decision making.  In non-democratic governments, people do not elect their rulers and have no right in decision making.
 There is freedom of expression and people enjoy political rights.  There is no freedom of expression and people do not enjoy fundamental rights.
 Example: India, USA.  Example: Saudi Arabia, Zimbabwe.
