what is dead space in adult human being and its volume..and location?? in our lung

Dear Student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query:

Dead air space is the volume of air in respiratory system that does is not involved in exchange of gases for respiration. The average amount of dead space in respiratory system amounts to 150 ml.
There are two areas in the respiratory system where the inhaled air does not show exchange of gases with blood or vice versa.
1. The Respiratory Tract conducting air and not in contact with blood capillaries for exchange of gases , i.e. trachea, bronchioles and respiratory tree. Such a volume of dead air space is known as Anatomical Dead Space Air.
2. The alveoli which are not in direct  contact with blood capillaries for exchange of gases. Air stored in such alveoli also contributes to dead air space. Usually negligible in a healthy individual as all the alveoli are functional and well perfused.
