What is difference between altitude and median ?

Dear Student,

An altitude of a triangle is a line through a vertex and perpendicular to side opposite to the vertex. Since a triangle has 3 vertices, therefore, it has 3 altitudes.
In ∆ABC,
AD, BE and CF are the three altitude of the triangle.

A median of a triangle is a line segment joining a vertex to the midpoint of the opposing side. Every triangle has exactly three medians, one from each vertex to the opposite side.
In the ∆ABC,
AD, BE and CF are medians drawn from the vertices A, B and C to the opposite sides BC, CA and AB respectively.

Regards!
