What is difference between direct and indirect speech?

Dear Student, 

Direct Speech: If you report the message of the speaker in his own words without making any changes. 
Eg : Ram said, " I love to play football."
Indirect Speech: If you report the message of the speaker in your own words without changing the meaning of the message.
Eg : Ram said that he loves to play football.
