The differentiation is a  process by which a less specialized cell develops or matures to become more distinct in form and function. For example meristematic tissue loses the ability to divide and becomes permanent tissue like parenchyma and performs specific function of photosynthesis and storage.

When meristem tissues  lose their ability to divide and take up a specific function. This process is known as differntiation. Then meristematic tissues are known permanent tissues.
