what is direct proportion and inverse or indirect proportion

Direct Proportion : Two quantities x and y are said to be in Direct Proportion if they change in such a way that the ratio of the two value of x is the same as the ratio of corresponding two values of y.Or, in simple way, when two quantities x and y are in direct proportion, an increase in x causes a increase in y, while a decrease in x causes a decrease in y.

And,

Indirect Proportion : Two quantities x and y are said to be in Indirect Proportion if they change in such a way that the ratio of the two value of x is the same as the inverse of the ratio of corresponding two values of y. Or, in simple way, when two quantities x and y are in inverse proportion, an increase in x causes a decrease in y, while a decrease in x causes an increase in y.
