An electromagnet is a coil of insulated wire wound around a piece
of a magnetic substance such as soft iron The magnetic substance
acts as a magnet as long as the current flows in the wire

• Difference between permanent magnet and electromagnet-
1 Permanent magnet is not so strong, but electromagnet is very
strong
2 The strength of permanent magnet can't be changed, but that of
electromagnet can be changed by changing the number of turns or the
amount of current
3 Permanent magnet has permanent magnetism, but the magnetism in
electromagnet is temporary
4 The polarity of permanent magnet can't be changed, but that of
an electromagnet can be changed by changing the position of
positive and negative terminals
