What is eutrophication and how ots affect aquatic life form

Dear student,
please find the answer to your query below:

Eutrophication is the natural aging of a lake by biological enrichment of its water. pollutants from man’s activities like effluents from the industries and homes can radically accelerate the aging process. This phenomenon has been called Cultural or Accelerated Eutrophication. This leads to an increase in the growth of algae. Hence decreasing the amount of available dissolved oxygen to the aquatic life. Apart from this, inorganic compounds such as ammonia, phosphates also cause toxicity to aquatic life.

Hope this information clears your doubts.

when we use fertilizers
the fertilizer pollute soil and groundwater
then with the groundwater it reaches the water bodies
and helps in the growing of algae
finally the algae covers the water body and takes all the oxygen dissolved in the water

as the dissolved oxygen is now not in the water the aquatic life is thus affected.
