Free Martin, it is one of the natural cause in which the female acquires masculine characters during the fetal stage.
The mechanism which follows is that during the development of twins in the womb sometimes their chorions gets interconnected and their hormones gets mixed, there can be two cases 1) If the sexes of both the twins is same then there would be no effect, 2) But, if the sexes are different then the chorion of female fused with the uterus of male and hormones of male gets into female body thereby resulting in infertility of female, known as Free-Martin. This was discovered by an American biologist - Frank Lillie.
