The synaptic bulb or knob is the part of the synapse in neurons. Therefore, its function is to communicate with the dendrites of the next neuron and thus transmit the signals.
The synaptic bulb helps to change the action potential which is carried by the axons in the form of a chemical message. These chemical message then interacts with the recipient neurons or the effectors, in a process known as synaptic transmission.
