Taking the food as a whole -- without breaking it into simpler compounds like other lower forms of org. do.

ie not eating protein separately carbohydrate seperately.. etc take food as whole and the n   breaking into simpler substances ----- during digestion.

Majority do protozoa derive nourishments by engulfing other organisms, both animals and plants. Such protozoans are called holozoic and the mode of nutrition is called holozoic nutrition. The mode of nutrition involves the development of various ganelles to capture food. The process of nutrition involves four define steps.

1. Ingestion: the holozoic mode of nutrition lead to the specialization of food capture and food ingesting organaselle. But the locomotory organs usually serve the purpose. In Amoeba mouth and specializes organs for food capturing are wanting. Hence the food is ingested at any point of the cell body and pseudopodia act as food capturing organs.
2. Digestion: the digestion is intracellular taking place either directly the endoplasm or inside the food vacuole. The digestive enzymes are poured into the food vacuole by the surrounding endoplasm and process of digestion takes place.
3. Assimilation: the digested food is assimilated but the cell cytoplasm by diffusion. The food vacuoles constantly move about in the cytoplasm to supply the digested food to every part of the cell body.

Holozoic is animal like feeding. The protist extends little flagella like "arms" out and engulfs the organism they are feeding on. The organism is then stored in a food vacuole where it can be digested. Keep in mind the protist is usually a single celled organism.
