Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the overactive thyroid gland abnormally produces high levels of thyroxin in the blood.
 
Causes of Hyperthyroidism include:
1 Excessive intake of iodine
2 Graves disease, an auto immune disease is the most common cause.
3 Toxic multinodular goiter.
4 Inflammation of the thyroid, called as Thyroiditis caused because of viral infection can cause hyperthyroidism,
 
Treatments of Hyperthyroidism:
1 Antithyroid drug stops the thyroid gland from producing excess amounts of thyroxine.
2 Radioactive Iodine: Radioactive iodine is picked up by the active cells in the thyroid and destroys them.
3 Surgery is performed if other treatments are not possible
 
It is a hormonal disorder because; thyroid is an endocrine gland that plays a major role in the body metabolism. It makes and stores hormones such as thyroxin necessary for the normal functioning of the body.
 
Hyperthyroidism is due to thyroxine hormone disorder.
 It can occur at any age but is most common in women aged 20 to 50 years.
