What is key??
How is it helpful in identification, classification and nomenclature???

Dear student
A key is a sequence of contrasting characteristics, in which each stage presents descriptions of two contrasting characters with a direction to another stage in the key, until the species is identified. It helps in identification by helping us choosing a characteristic sequence wise that matches with are sample and then giving it a name at the end.

Keys are used for identification and classification of different plants and animals on the basis of similarities and differences in characters. These are used in identification of class, order, family, genus and species. It is divided into pairs of opposite characters that are either present or absent.
