u have seen the clinical and laboraty thermometer in lavboratory thermometer it has no kink but in clinical thermometer u saw that the line is not fully straight as well as in laboratorty thermometer can u now understand

kink is found in a clinical thermometer . The kink allows the mercury to flow into the capilary tube. Then the thermometer is placed in the patient's mouth to check the temperature.After some times the thermometer is taken out to know the temperature.Due to the presence of the kink the mercury will not flow back easily.Therfore the kink allows to know the correct temperature of the patient.

kink is there in thermometer because when doctor keep in our mouth so when doctors want to see the tempreature so he can see easily because mercury exapands fast when it is heated and it also come done fast so whene kink is there soit will take time to come down so till it come down doctors will see and jerk it so then it willcome down.

it has a slight bend. it ensures that mercury thread does not fall back by itself that has been used to mesure the temprature of a person

You're referring to alcohol or mercury thermometers used to take person's temperature?That constriction slows the flow of the alcohol back into the bulb after the thermometer is removed from your mouth (or elsewhere) so the temperature can be read more accurately. Otherwise the indicated temp would begin to decrease as soon as the bulb is moved to a cooler environment.That why you see the nurse shaking the thermometer down before use, to get all the alcohol back into the bulb so it can re-expand properly before the next use.

a kink is present just above the mercury bulb that does not allow the mercury in the column to fall back .this avoids changing of the recorded temperature while reading the thermometer
