what is larynx ? what are its' function

Larynx is an organ present in the neck of various animals like mammals, reptiles and amphibians. It is also known as voice box as it is involved in sound production. Its major functions are:

1) Sound generation: It is involved in sound generation and control of the voice.

2) Protection of trachea

3) Helps in the flow of air into lungs.
