Dear Student,

Through Lost Spring, Anees Jung reveals the plight of slum children. She portrays another face of Indian society where survival requires one to lose identity as well as freedom. Though Saheb works for the tea shop, he has lost his innocence and freedom. He seems to be embroiled in child labour. Mukesh is rooted down by the century old tradition of bangle making that his family relies on, yet he wants to become a motor mechanic. Anees Jung through her stories draws a picture of hope and light amidst the darkness that characterises the slum population.

Regards.
