What is meant by biological nitrogen fixation Explain the process of biological nitrogen fixation.Give role of leghemoglobin in nitrogen fixation
dear student,
Firstly Biological nitrogen fixation is a term used for a process in which N2 (nitrogen)from the atmosphere is incorporated and converted into usable forms for the plants. the leguminous plants have nodules in their roots which has the presence of nitrogen fixing bacteria like rhizobium. please have a look at this schematic diagram.
talking about leg-haemoglobin:-
1. The nodules are reddish, pink in colour due to the role of leg-haemoglobin.
2. this pigment also acts as an oxygen scavenger that protect the enzyme present in the nodules of these plants.
hope it helps!
regards.
