Late antiquity in European history refers to the period from the late third century to the mid seventh century AD. This was the period marked by the collapse of the Western Roman empire.

The following points will help you:

a. The ancient Roman empire basically stretched across ​ Europe, Asia and Africa and therefore has been reffered as the Empire across Three Continents.
b. The empire has been divided into early and late phases. 
c. The first and second phase of the Roman empire was peaceful.  In fact the first two centuries experienced political stability.
