The idea behind this line is that the poet ,due to his carelessness has lost his childhood and it has gone away.That's why the use of forgotten place is done.Also, he has lost the innocence that is there on the face of the child and his innocent nature.His nature is changed.That's why the last part has been used.Hope this helps!!!!!!!
