What is ##membrane biogenesis??

Dear Student,
Membrane biogenesis is the process of synthesis or formation of the cell membrane in the cell. The plasma membrane is made up of phospholipid bilayer along with several proteins interspersed within or on either side of the bilayer. The cell continuously needs to synthesize new membranes whenever there is a damage to any cell organelle or the cell itself. Cell membrane is also required to form small vesicles that leave the Endoplasmic Reticulum or Golgi Apparatus. When a cell divides to form new cell, the plasma membrane is needed to be synthesized. Several cell organelles and structures are involved in membrane biogenesis - Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (SER), Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER), Golgi Apparatus, small vesicles and plasma membrane. RER forms the proteins and SER forms the lipids, these are then transported to the Golgi Apparatus for modifications. Golgi bodies modifies these proteins and lipids, packages them into transport carriers called vesicles and send them  to proper location. These vesicles bud off from the surface of Golgi bodies, go near the cell membrane, fuse with it, and becomes a part of the membrane.
