What Is Mitosis,Amitosis And Meiosis?
Mitosis: Mitosis is a type of cell division in which parent cell produces two daughter cells through a sequential nuclear division. This type of cell division produces daughter cells having equal number of chromosomes and identical genetic constitution like the parent cells.
Mitosis helps in growth and development of the body of an organism. Healing of wounds, repairing of lost parts etc. take place by mitosis. Unicellular organisms usually reproduce through the process of mitosis.
Amitosis :- Amitosis is a process of cell division in which the cell directly separates. Cytoplasm and nucleus are cut into two. No phases like mitosis and meiosis occur.
Meiosis :- Meiosis is the reductional cell division in which diploid (double set) number of chromosomes is reduced to haploid (single set) number. Meiosis has two different phases – meiosis I and meiosis II. Meiosis I is reduction division which produces two haploid cells where as Meiosis II is the equational division which produces total of four haploid cells from the two resulting meiosis I cells by the process of mitosis.
During formation of male and female gametes in organisms meiosis occurs.
