Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) is a legalized method of termination of pregnancy, intentionally, before its full term. It is also known as induced abortion or intentional or voluntary termination of pregnancy. Medical termination of pregnancy is the method to terminate the unwanted or unintentional pregnancies. From the emotional, ethical, religious and social point of views, MTP is considered unethical and is still a debatable topic. Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, 1971 is an effort of the Indian government to get rid of unwanted pregnancy legally without any misuse.
Advantage of MTP
It allows to save the life of mother in cases of a risky pregancy, without involving surgery. It reduces the chances of infection. It takes less time, and can be done at a early stage.
Disadvantage of MTP
Painful crampings and heavy bleeding occur.
