What is n and p??

Dear student,these are extrinsic semi conductors where impurity is doped.If the impurity belongs to 15the group then one electron remains free from bonding,the semiconductor is called n type(negative) while when impurity of 13 group is added then there is deficiency of electron,the semiconductor is called p type(positive hole).Regards
