What is northern lights

Also known as Aurora Borealis, the Northern lights are green glow or red light seen in the Earth's sky specially in the high-latitude regions.  Due to earth's magnetic field the ions from the sun get trapped and collide with atmospheric atoms near the poles. This collision gives rise to this amazing and mesmerising phenomena.
