what is oxidation number of metal in IUPAC name of complex cation and complex anion
Dear Student,
In the IUPAC nomenclature of complexs the metal oxidation state is written in ( ) in roman numerals . For example if Fe has oxidation state of +3 it is written as (III) .
The names of metal varies from complex to complex .If the complex is cation the metal is written as the same name of the metal . If the complex is anion then the metal name is written with a suffix 'ate'
For example Plumbate , cuprate , ferrate .
For example - [Pt(NH3)5Cl]Br is named as pentaminechloro platinum (IV) chloride
K4[Fe(CN)6] is named as potassium hexacyanoferrate (II)
