What is partial pressure?

The partial pressure is the pressure exerted independently by a particular gas in a mixture of gases. For example: In an apparatus containing nitrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide gases, the pressure exerted by oxygen gas individually will be the partial pressure of oxygen gas and  will contribute to the total pressure of the system.

partial pressure is just what it states. if there is more than one gas in a container, each gas contributes to the total pressure of the container. partial pressure can also be determined by looking at the molar ratios of each gas
